This was a personal painting.
wanted to try and do something with a fairly kiwi (new zealand) flavour to it.
was inspired by the portrait works of Goldie, specifically the color pallette. he was a traditional portrait artist back in the 1900s. a google image search for goldie paintings should give examples of his work.
ended up going for something very traditional, resisted the urge to make it too fantasy based and stuck with very traditional clothes, except for the feather tipped cloak, that is a slight deviation from traditional dress.
the bird is a Fantail, native to new zealand.
